I've got crabs!

During a friendly trip to the neighborhood grocer, Jim and I were perusing the snack isle. This wasn't your typical peanut/popcorn/potato chip snack isle, but more the wasabi dried pea/crunchy noodle/rice cake variety. It was here that we ran across this special treat: a grab-and-go bag of bite-sized soft-shell crabs!

Great. We bought a pack and headed out to the car to try this spicy Indonesian snack. After much mismanaging, we ripped open the bag and the putrid smell of dried seafood wafted through the air, recycled by the air conditioning. Mmmmm... We each popped a crab, well Jim popped two or three. Not quite finger-lickin' good but not half bad either.

Chronicles of Indocena

Selamat siang and welcome to the chronicles of my life in Indonesia. I imagine they won't be quite as fantastical as those of Narnia, but this being Jakarta, one never knows exactly what one will get. This digi-travel journal is for family and friends to share in the odd, interesting and sometimes repulsive snippets of my 14 month stint abroad. I'll spare you the sounds and smells (lucky you!), but offer some sights and thoughts so that you can live Indonesia vicariously through your computer (and so I don't have to repeat the same story to those of you on speed dial). Happy reading and salamat datang di Indonesia!
